Year 3

Mrs J. Latham – Year Three Teacher (Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri), Mrs S. Hodgson (Thurs)

Welcome to Year 3

Welcome to Year 3’s homepage where you can find out what the children will be learning each term. You will also be able to read about the interesting activities they have been getting involved in.

Year 3 is a significant year at school as the foundations are laid for the children’s journey through Key Stage 2 and it is in this year that we encourage children to become more responsible for their own learning. The teaching assistants who support Year 3 are Mrs Ellis and Mrs Stapleton.

I hope children will find their time in Year 3 exciting and stimulating.

Y3 Castle Fun

Year 3 enjoyed an excellent day at Warkworth Castle. Following on from our English theme before Easter, we enjoyed identifying many interior and exterior features of a medieval castle. Nobody got struck by an arrow or drowned in the moat, so a happy and informative...

Y3 Spring term

We have lots to enjoy learning about again this term. Here are some potential highlights:

Our History theme is the Stone Age – we will be placing this era on a huge timeline, stretching back hundreds of metres to the creation of Planet Earth. We will learn about Hunter-Gatherers, Stone Circles and Cave Paintings too!

Y3’s Autumn term

There is much to look forward to this term. Here is a taster: Our overarching theme is the UK. In Geography we will build knowledge of the location of major cities, counties, rivers, roads and National Parks. Our Art & Design will draw inspiration from the fantastic...

Charity Cake Sale thanks

Thanks so much to children and parents of Y3 and Y4, for a very successful Cake Sale. We raised £105 for our chosen charity, the Children's Liver Disease Foundation'. Well done School Councillors for implementing this idea! Mr Belton & Mrs Beasley.

Y3 Summer Term

Having studied the Stone Age, we now turn our historical attention to Ancient Egypt - so much to enjoy, including a series of dance sessions, some clay modeling and drama! We will be locating continents and countries of the world in Geography and looking at Jesus'...

Y3’s ‘Grand Day Out’

We had a great time at Warkworth Castle, supplementing our enjoyment of our 'Castles' theme in English. Creating Land Art castles on the beach was to follow. Finally, we all experienced the 'Dune of Death' with some comedy results (and a 100% survival rate!) Mr...

Y3 Fitness Fun

Year 3 had a great time at Whickham School, participating in a 'Fitness Festival'. We ran, hopped, jumped, skipped and bench-stepped all afternoon, led by their young sports...

A safer internet for Y3

We have discussed 5 scenarios (for 'Jimmy' or 'Jenny') around the issue of internet safety. We then photographed a mock freeze-frame and added advice for each scenario: Jimmy unexpectedly sees an upsetting image online. Jimmy is asked by someone online to meet at the...
