Welcome to the summer term in Year 6! This is a big term for the children – their last one in primary school – and between SATs, Enterprise projects and a Leavers’ assembly, it’s a busy one! The children have been working very hard for SATs and are becoming confident in their knowledge and skills. Hopefully they will enjoy showing off their ability and not be too worried! If anyone is stressed about the tests, please let me know and we can have another chat.

As last term whizzed past so quickly, we will be spending a little bit of time finishing Macbeth before moving to our science, art and geography topic – “The Blue Planet”. This will focus on the main oceans of the world, what they contribute, what life we can find in them, and how this life varies and adapts to its habitat. This will hopefully be supplemented by a visit to The Blue Reef Aquarium in Tynemouth (more details will be sent home as we get them). If children have cameras they are welcome to bring them for this visit, but only if they are not also a phone.

This term includes our Enterprise project. The children work in groups to prepare a stall for the Summer Fair (usually a game of some sort). They are given a budget from which they buy resources and prizes etc. and the winner is the team that manages to return the most profit per group member. We will begin to work on this after half term, but it’s never too early to start thinking of ideas (just as a guide, each member of the team will get a £5 ‘loan’ to start up their business – teams can be no more than 6 children).

Homework will be sent out on a Monday to be returned before or on Thursday continue to focus on revision, and P.E. continues to be on a Monday and a Friday.

I hope this has helped you to get a feel for what we are teaching; it’s very much an outline. If you would like more information, please come and see me or return to the home page of this site, where you can find far more detail with regard to subject content under ‘Curriculum’, and then ‘Curriculum 2014’.

Thank you as ever for your support, it is very much appreciated.
