Summer term is in full swing now – whatever the weather may say – and we are deeply into our SATs preparation. The children are doing fantastically and are becoming confident in their knowledge and skills. Hopefully they will enjoy showing off their ability and not be too worried! If anyone is stressed about the tests, please let me know and we can have another chat.

You will notice that the children aren’t getting spelling homework this term. They will be working on five words per day in the classroom, always linked by a spelling pattern. From this they will choose one word to put on their ‘ask me to spell’ sticker. This will change daily, so by the end of the week they should have a better understanding of five patterns and know five words by heart. Please take their sticker off at the end of each day and keep a record of the spelling to help them build their ‘known spellings’ over the next four weeks before SATs.

As last term whizzed past so quickly, we will be spending a little bit of time finishing our Entertainment through the ages topic, before moving (after SATS) to our science, art and geography topic – “The Blue Planet”. This will focus on the main oceans of the world, what they contribute, what life we can find in them, and how this life varies and adapts to its habitat. This will hopefully be supplemented by a visit to The Blue Reef Aquarium in Tynemouth (more details will be sent home as we get them). If children have cameras they are welcome to bring them for this visit, but only if they are not also a phone.

Homework will be sent out on a Monday to be returned before or on Thursday continue to focus on revision, and P.E. continues to be on a Monday and a Friday.

I hope this has helped you to get a feel for what we are teaching; it’s very much an outline. If you would like more information, please come and see me or visit the curriculum part of the website, and then ‘Curriculum 2014’.

Thank you as ever for your support, it is very much appreciated.
