Year 2 information

Welcome back and I hope you all had a lovely summer.

In History this half term we will be looking at ‘The Great Fire of London’ and the role of Samuel Pepys.

In science we will be looking at ‘Animals including Humans’.

Within this we will look at offspring which grow into adults and the basic needs of animals including humans.

Design and technology is ‘Textiles’ looking at the use of animal print.

PE is on Tuesdays and Fridays (please make sure your child has the correct PE kit with their name on)

Homework will consist of a ‘literacy challenge’ and a piece of maths. It will be given out on Fridays and needs to be back to school no later than Wednesday so that I have enough time to mark it and to stick in their next piece of homework.

Please feel free to write a comment on your child’s homework to let me know how they coped with it.

Spelling tests are every Friday morning and your child will be given their list of words to learn alongside their homework on a Friday. Spelling lists are stuck into the homework books so they don’t get lost so feel free to copy them out at home so that you have a copy of them all week.

Each child has a reading day where they bring their reading folder. We will have a guided/shared reading task then they change their reading book and also choose a book from the class library to share with you at home. This week your child will just be given a reading book as reading starts next week (due to the short week).

_________ reading day is ____________.

Show and tell: I like to encourage the children to bring something to school that they can show the class and talk about to improve their speaking and listening skills.

We usually try and fit this in every Friday at the end of the day.

My door is always open so please feel free to come and see me after school for any questions or concerns.

Thank you

Mrs. Williamson
