Today Year 5 had an exciting and busy day at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland. In the morning we investigated materials and how they can change; we discovered that glass melts at 1,100°C. Through practical experiments we explored the meanings of ‘soluble’ and ‘insoluble’. The workshop leader was very impressed with our knowledge!
Before lunch we were taken on a tour of a fascinating exhibition by Andrew Miller called The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. We had fun comparing the glass objects in the photographs with their new changed forms in the gallery.
We ate our packed lunches on the glass roof and scared ourselves by looking below into the gift shop! In the afternoon we designed fused glass mosaic tiles which we are very much looking forward to seeing when they have been heated in the kiln.
