On Thursday Y5 had an exciting day exploring Newcastle Castle Keep and the Black Gate. The visit enabled the children to learn about the history on their doorstep as well as provide a backdrop to the legend of King Arthur which they have been studying this term.
In the morning the class was taken on an intriguing tour of the castle’s many floors, passageways and rooms. There is even a chapel inside!
Climbing the many stairs to see the views from the roof was well worth it!
The afternoon was based in the Black Gate where the children discovered what it takes to be a good knight, they handled the armour and weapons a knight would use and they helped to re-enact a legend about a Northumbrian knight.
Mr Armstrong kindly volunteered to dress up as a knight, though wished he hadn’t after nearly getting stuck inside the tunic!!
A big Thank You to the parent helpers for accompanying Y5 on the visit.
