This term in Year 6 we will be working on the topic “Shakespeare’s World”. The children will find out more about the man himself, the world he lived in and, of course, his many plays. We will get to know the play “Romeo and Juliet” in depth and will be putting on a performance of this play for you (dates to follow). We have already begun our exploration of this play and the children are showing very mature depths of understanding and engagement – I’m already really impressed with them – and so naturally I’m expecting great things! There won’t be an educational visit this term, but in the Spring term there will be two in close succession – sorry about that!
In addition to this topic we will be continuing our work on literacy and numeracy. In science, we will be exploring Forces, and then moving on to Reversible and irreversible changes. In PHSCE we will be exploring some of the challenges and anxieties we may have as we move up the school, and how we can overcome them.
We are also going to be spending some time with our new Reception buddies, which I know the children are looking forward to, and getting used to our new monitor roles.
With regard to practicalities, our P.E. days are on Tuesday and Friday. Weather permitting, the children will be going outside for this, so outdoor kit is required. Homework will be sent on a Monday (Maths and Literacy) and Thursday (Brain Builder). More information about Brain Builder will follow.
If you have any questions or concerns at all, please come and see me. I’m on the yard most mornings and after school, or feel free to call or make an appointment for a meeting.
Thank you for your support, I look forward to meeting you on parents evening (TBA) if not sooner.
